2-Ethyl Hexyl Acrylate is an acrylate monomer with a molecular formula of CH2=CHCOOC8H17. It is a clear liquid which is not soluble in water and completely soluble in alcohols and ethers. It is not a very flammable liquid with a flashpoint between 75 – 90° C and has a characteristic acrylic odour. It is easily miscible with other organic solvents and is readily polymerized with monomer molecules to create polymer chains. 2-ethyl acrylate will react with oxidising agents such as alkalis and will polymerise with the application of heat. Polymerisation is inhibited with methyl ether or hydroquinone.
