This colourless viscous liquid used for softening PVC plastics is known for its safer phthalate-free chemistry. It possesses very good plasticizing properties and may be used as a direct replacement for low molecular weight phthalates (DOP) in many applications.

Di Iso Butyl Phthalate (DIBP) is prepared by esterification process of isobutanol and phthalic anhydride. DIBP is an odorless plasticizer and has excellent heat and light stability. It is the lowest cost plasticizer for cellulose nitrate. DIBP has lower density and freezing point than DBP. It has similar properties as dibutyl phthalate and can be used as a substitute for it.
